KISHAN RAMAN

  • Director + Cinematographer | Storyteller.

I like telling stories. Really like telling stories. I’m a deep-thinker, risk-taker and sitting on the edge of my comfort zone is what I’m all about. I love to push creative boundaries and people’s perceptions of what good storytelling is. I’ve been immersed in the acting, film and television world for over a decade. I studied at Toi Whakaari and devoted myself to being at the forefront of both acting and filmmaking.

Drama school opened doors for me behind the lens, and I quickly developed a passion for the camera, ‘geeking out’ over lighting rigs and equipment, and immersing myself in the visual elements of storytelling. My venture into 2113, which is centred on developing and delivering responsive visual storytelling, was a natural step.

Career highlights include working on local shows such as SHORTLAND STREET, BLACK HANDS and KURA, international projects such as SWEET TOOTH, THE WILDS and THE TANK, or shooting music videos for some of my favourite artists including THE BETHS, DICK MOVE, DIGGY DUPE and ISRAEL STARR.

  • Director + Producer | Visual Storyteller

I am a visual storyteller and award-winning filmmaker.

After graduating from Toi Whakaari; NZ Drama School, I began to carve out a career across the arts, marketing and screen industries. My work as a storyteller and publicist – including running accounts for Auckland Theatre Company and Show Me Shorts Film Festival, alongside freelancing in the film and TV industry – sharpened my focus and resulted in the co-founding of 2113.

I thrive on collaboration – whether it be leading a crew of talented experts, or connecting with clients and agencies. I relish any opportunity to tell a story – both as a director and producer – across commercials, stills, documentary, content, video, films and music videos.

I have produced and directed commercial content for the likes of Contiki, WellingtonNZ, Sir John Kirwan Foundation, APL, Fonterra, Eden Park, Auckland Theatre Company and Diabetes NZ.

I have shown film work at international film festivals such as NZIFF, Show Me Shorts, Galway Film Fleadh, Melbourne Women in Film Festival, Vail Film Festival, Down Under Berlin Film Festival and more.

I have taught and facilitated projects at Toi Whakaari, Wintec, The Actors’ Program, National Youth Drama School and have been a judge at the 48 Hours filmmaking competition.

Highlights of my filmmaking career to-date include second unit directing on Amazon’s Don’t Make Me Go and creating the highly-acclaimed NZ On Air funded documentary Disorder. This year, I was selected to participate in the eighth Emerging Women Filmmakers Incubator run by DEGANZ.
